Nike’s upcoming Space Hippie initiative is carrying the torch for the brand’s focus on future sustainability, and a big part of that is at the literal base of it all: Crater Foam. The coarse rubber is made with a blend of standard Nike foams and (at least) 15 percent recycled Nike Grind Rubber. It’s the latter’s granules that create a multi-colored finish, unlike anything we’ve seen before. Now, after surfacing on the sole of the Air Force 1, and more recently on the Nike Blazer, the sustainable finish is applied to Nike’s audacious Air, the Air Max Plus.
